Manager Collier County Sheriff's Office Naples, Florida
In 2017, when Hurricane Irma made its way to Collier County, both Supervisor Guttenfelder and Manager Tuff were "just dispatchers" working on the floor. Fast forward to 2022 when Hurricane Ian came into town, they were in leadership positions and were able to take their experiences from the past and positively impact their team's overall well-being as well as make positive operational decisions during a tragic time. This session will also provide an overview of how to plan for future large-scale events.
Learning Objectives:
After this session, participants will be better equipped to anticipate the needs of their team members when faced with similar situations. Things like creating an evacuation plan, utilizing backup communications centers, etc.
Participants will be prepared on how to create a plan for any technical matters that may arise. Such as what to do when the center's phone lines go down, if the CAD crashes, or when callers begin emailing requests for welfare and family members, etc.
Supervisors and leaders attending this session will be provided tools on how to recognize the importance of mental health intervention when experiencing large scale emergencies.
