Suicide touches everyone, including 9-1-1 and all of public safety. I'll speak about my personal story of loss, survival, to where I am today - and how someone impacted me in a way with something so simple that changed my life. These kits are a way for your teams to work together, creating good feelings while you're helping the communities you serve and making suicide more normal to discuss. This class will have dual presentation and workshop elements as we will be hands-on building zero suicide kits, and you will get one to take back to your center.
Learning Objectives:
Students will learn skills to overcome compassion fatigue as they gain more knowledge about how suicidal feelings can affect everyone - including them.
Students will gain wellness tips about how they can take steps today to help keep some problems a simple problem instead of a complex problem. This isn't spoken from a book - this is from a 911 dispatcher herself who lives it and knows it - both suicidal ideations and public safety.
Finally students will be able to be empowered to create change not only within themselves, but also within their center, and even communities whether that is through these zero suicide kits themselves or through the inspirational messages they will receive about overcoming life's difficult obstacles.
