Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the role and function of Florida's TERT teams and the Communications Unit response. They will learn about these unique teams' activation process, the responsibilities of deployed personnel, and the importance of collaboration and coordination in disaster response. Participants will explore strategies and tactics employed by TERT teams and COMU strike teams during recent deployments. They will learn about pre-deployment planning, including impact assessment and resource allocation and gain insights into on-site systems and networks, such as establishing temporary communications, satellite, voice and data, base camps, and coordinating with response entities and the state EOC. Participants will identify lessons learned and best practices from Hurricane Ian and Idalia and understand the importance of post-deployment hot wash and after-action reviews in improving future response capabilities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the role & function of the FL-TERT team response. They will learn about the team's activation process, the responsibilities of the FL-TERT Members, and the importance of interagency coordination in disaster response efforts.
  • Participants will explore the effective strategies employed by FL-TERT teams during deployments. They will learn about pre-deployment planning, including impact assessment and resource allocation. They will gain insights into on-site deployment strategies, such as establishing temporary communications networks and coordinating with other response entities.
  • Participants will identify lessons learned and best practices from previous deployments. They will understand the importance of post-deployment evaluations and data analysis in improving future response capabilities.
