Deranecque Sims is a 23-year Public Safety veteran working for the Memphis Police Department Emergency Communications Bureau (ECB). She began her public safety career in 2001 as a police radio dispatcher. She has served as a Communications Training Officer, Supervisor, and presently as Communications Shift Manager. Deranecque works to promote personal and professional development, clear and transparent communication, and positive employee engagement. She has earned the NENA Emergency Number Professional (ENP) certification, the APCO Certified Public Safety Executive (CPE) certification, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Christian Brothers University.
Deranecque serves on professional work group committees for NENA, APCO, and the Tennessee Emergency Number Association (TENA). She has received numerous accolades and recognition for her work and leadership. She has been awarded APCO International's 2021 Supervisor of the Year, Memphis Police Supervisor of the Year 2020, and received the Tennessee Emergency Number Association’s 2020 Incident of the Year award and 2018 Tactical Dispatch award .
As Manager, Mrs. Sims restructured her agency's Tactical Dispatcher program, implemented her their first Mentoring program, and serves as Editor-In-Chief of the ECB 911 news magazine that aspires to increase transparency and communication between management and frontline emergency operators; and improve overall employee morale.
In her spare time, Deranecque volunteers her services through a number of organizations: Women In 911 (WIN), Girls Scouts of America, Mentor Memphis, Baptist Camp Good Grief, and The United Way Mid-South.
